1) Expert Advice on Estate Planning

Rick Salus is no ordinary Chapter supporter.  In fact, Rick is pretty extraordinary.  For the past 5 years, he has served as the Chair for the Chapter's annual "Drive Out ALS" golf tournament - a tournament that he founded.

Almost 7 years ago, Rick's friend and neighbor, Doug Ousterman, was diagnosed with ALS.  In the wake of this diagnosis, Rick wanted to do something to show his support for Doug.  Not one for small gestures, he created the golf tournament, which has brought in nearly $470,000 since it started in 2003!

Sadly, Doug lost his battle with ALS in 2005.  In his honor, Rick continued with the tournament through 2008.  However, due to personal and professional commitments in the upcoming year, Rick has decided that he will be stepping away from chairing the tournament.  That said, he still has a strong desire to support the Chapter.  As an attorney whose practice focuses on wealth management and estate planning, Rick felt one of the best ways he could continue to support the Chapter was to offer estate planning information to our constituents to help them not only take care of their families but to consider including the Orange County Chapter as a beneficiary as well.

Rick has generously offered to hold a free, informational seminar for anyone interested in learning more about estate planning.  If, at the end of the seminar, you are interested in consulting an attorney, Rick has also offered to refer you to a qualified colleague.

To learn more about Rick, click here.

Currently, no dates have been scheduled for this seminar.  We will schedule a session based on interest.  To learn more about the event or to express an interest in attending, call the office at 714.285.1088.

5) Consider Having a Third Party Event

What is a Third Party Event?third party gif

Third party events are activities that, for the most part, are devised, planned and managed by a Chapter supporter, like you.  These events are designed to raise funds for the work that the Chapter does to support PALS and their families and to contribute to national research efforts.

The event can be an individual activity, such as a solo endurance event or it can be an activity that many people participate in, such as a golf tournament or a cocktail party.

In short, the event should be created around an activity that you and your potential supporters enjoy doing.

Lou Gehrig's Farewell to be Saluted on July 4

By Gary Wosk, Staff Writer

In a historic tribute during game day events across the nation, The ALS Association is joining with Major League Baseball® and Minor League Baseball™ on July 4 to commemorate Lou Gehrig’s brave battle with ALS.

The Association has launched the “Covering All the Bases® Hitting Challenge” during Major League Baseball’s “4ALS Awareness” charitable initiative that commemorates the 70th anniversary of Gehrig’s famous “Luckiest Man” farewell speech.

In the “Covering All the Bases” program, baseball fans and supporters of the fight against ALS can make a pledge for each hit made by their favorite Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball team on July 4th. After July 4th, supporters will still have an opportunity to participate and make a general contribution throughout the month of July.
