Thanks for visiting my page! Your support really means the world to me. Marathon #10!!! A few years back, I laced up my shoes, trained and ran my first full marathon to raise awareness and money for APLA. It was hard, it was time consuming, there were moments I wanted to give up and after I crossed the finish line, I told myself and everyone else, one and done. Never again. Friends and family laughed as I signed up for my next marathon and the ones after that but somewhere along the way, I promised myself to run 10 of these races and here I am, #10. This race is very personal, not only because when I cross the finish line will it be the culmination of countless miles run to get me to my goal but even more personal than that is this one is for my Big Brother Gary. I'm running for ALS. My brother died of ALS and the money we raise will go towards fighting ALS and to help those living with this terrible disease to live a better more comfortable life. Im running this one for ALS Orange County Chapter. They helped my brother and family during and after his battle with ALS and it's time for me to give back. I'm running the Paris Marathon in April 2018 for Gary! There are six McGinley kids. Gary is #3. I miss him. Gary was loving. He was a bit nuts. He was louder than the rest of us. More adventurous. He was fun and funny and caring. He always referred to me as his Baby Brother. He had a tough outer shell but was sensitive. I think about him every day. He was a Dad of six. Six kids who were robbed of having a Dad that they deserve. He didn't get to see his sons get married. He didn't get to see his oldest daughter graduate college and won't be there at his other daughter's graduation either. He never got to see his youngest son play in the band. He didn't get to to meet his grandson or his granddaughter. I often think how unfair this is and I often think that sadly this is far too common. I'm running this race for my nephews and nieces and my bothers and sister. I'm running this one for my Parents. My Mom and Nephew were his primary caregivers and I'm running this one for them and all the other caregivers that lovingly and painfully support and take on the challenge. I'm running to end this disease. I’ve signed up for One Dollar Difference for the ALS community because, together, our impact can lead to one day living in a world without ALS. The ALS Association is helping people all over the country living with this disease and pushing closer and closer towards a treatment and a cure every single day. Now, this is where you and I come in! My fundraising effort is helping keep cutting edge research projects funded and ensuring people living with ALS are getting the proper care and support. Join the movement to cure ALS and put your dollar where it counts and help me reach my goal. Together, we will have a huge impact in the fight against ALS. As I have in the past, I am personally covering 100% of the travel and race expenses so that 100% of your contribution will go to wards the effort of erasing ALS. The ALS Association has generously provided me with the platform and fundraising page to do this, but I am doing this race on my own. I am training and running solo but I have a huge team of family and friends that will be right beside me. Join my team by donating and let's kick some asphalt together. Thanks so much for helping my fundraiser succeed and supporting The ALS Association and its programs.
We need more difference makers like you in this world to make it a better place. Please pass the page along to anyone else who is as awesome as you!
Much LOVE, Gary's Baby Brother Scott If you do not want to donate online, you can download an offline donation form by clicking here. |
